As far as rumours about potential launches go, this one seems too good to be true. First unveiled at CES, Asus might be bringing its quad-core EEE Memo Pad tablet to India for the low price of just Rs. 15,000, according to new reports.
Alex Huang, managing director of the system business group at Asus India, seems to have told The Mobile Indian that they will be launching the low-cost tablet in May. But whether he meant the Memo Pad or something else is left up to your imagination with this cryptic quote: “We will cater to all the segments right from the low end to very high end with both WiFi and 3G tablets. We will be launching our first low cost tablet in the month of May in India.”
As for the price of Rs. 15,000, there doesn’t seem to be any indication of where the website got that from – whether it’s an informed source, Huang himself or a conjecture.

Still, remember that this was the tablet which wowed everyone at CES when Nvidia and Asus jointly said it would retail in the US for just $250 while boasting of incredible features such as a quad-core Tegra 3 processor, 7-inch IPS screen, 1GB RAM and Google Android v4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
At that time, we had called it both the Kindle-killer and the iPad-killer, and if Asus meets these expected features and price, then we can’t wait to put down our hard-earned cash for it.
Meanwhile, EFY Times is also reporting that the Asus Padfone smartphone-tablet hybrid will be coming to India in the first half of 2012, although there are no further details on when exactly that will be or the price.
