Sonia dilemma: To sack Kiran or not!

Wednesday, 28 March 2012

Congress president Sonia Gandhi is said to be in a quandary on whether or not she should replace Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy in the wake of large scale complaints against him from all quarters.
It is quite evident that Sonia is not happy with Kiran as he failed to provide a good administration and also a good leadership to the Congress party in the state.
Day in and day out, she has been flooded with complaints against his style of functioning. The feedback from AICC incharge of Andhra affairs and also Congress MPs from the state on Kiran’s performance was not satisfactory.
However, Sonia is said to be in a dilemma on changing the Chief Minister at this stage as it would draw criticism on her own judgement of Kiran in the past. Secondly, she is not able to find another suitable leader who is acceptable to all sections of the party. She is learnt to have asked a few senior Congress leaders who met her the other day as to who would be the better choice if Kiran has to be replaced. And she could not get a satisfactory answer.
At the same time, she cannot continue Kiran just because there is no alternative.
“She wants to give a long rope to Kiran at least till the next round of by-elections in May or June. If he cannot secure the victory of at least half a dozen seats and improve the party’s position in the other seats, she might make up her mind to sack him. But by that time, there would be more damage to the Congress party,” an analyst observed.
