A news report that sent the Government into a tizzy, a report that talked of something bigger than 2G spectrum until a Government got a clarification from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG). The CAG hurt by insinuations that it was behind the leakage of the draft report calling for investigation to know the source of the leak.
But the CAG’s clarification helping the Government end the uproar in Parliament. Pranab Mukherjee, Union Finance Minister, said, “The details being brought out were observation which are under discussion at a very preliminary stage...and do not even constitute...our pre-final draft and hence exceedingly misleading.†While this report kicked up a storm it’s also ignited an old row on the inclusion of CAG under the RTI.
